Getting Started

Bring your own artwork and LightBurn Material Library file.
Choose or type the exact material name from that library.
Choose your engraving colors. Click a swatch to exclude it from the artwork, click it again to bring it back.
Link a swatch to its laser setting. Click and edit its color name so it exactly matches the Description field of the LightBurn Material Library setting you want to use.
Planning plenty of color engraving? For the smoothest workflow, rename your Material Library setting descriptions to match the Rasterizer’s palette color names.
Choose an image preset.
Set Square MM Size to choose the physical size of individual pixels processed.
Enter either the processing width or processing height in pixels. That value multiplied by the processing pixel size determines the finished physical dimension; the other dimension is calculated automatically to preserve your artwork’s aspect ratio.
Important: for maximum Rasterizer detail, set the image’s largest processing dimension to 1600 pixels and set Square MM Size to its minimum, 0.0625 mm. That gives you the smallest processing pixels and the largest available pixel count, fully maxing out the Rasterizer’s resolution capability. It also asks more of the machine and takes longer, so this is your official signal to make a coffee, drink it, and let the Rasterizer do its thing.

How does it work?

Honestly, no one knows for sure. We found the Rasterizer in an abandoned missile silo and were initially afraid to turn it on. Luckily, it appears to prefer turning images into laser-ready color projects.

Okay, seriously, here’s what it does:

The Rasterizer reads your artwork pixel by pixel and reduces it to the engraving colors you selected.
It joins matching color regions into clean, closed vector shapes that are ready for the laser.
It creates each LightBurn layer using the matching setting from your Material Library.
But wait, there’s more: it creates precise punch-through geometry for every color, so layers clear their own space with no overlapping engraves, stray open paths, or messy boundaries.

Spend less time tracing, sorting layers, and setting up jobs.

Spend more time making beautiful markings on metals.

Choose a photo preset for a polished starting point, or an abstract style when you want to turn the signal all the way up.

You focus on finding those knockout color settings, and the Rasterizer handles everything else.

5. Tune your engraving color palette

All available colors are included to start. Click a swatch to exclude it from the artwork. For settings, either keep the default color names and use those same names in your Material Library, or click a color name to retitle it to your library’s exact Entry Description or cut-setting name. Presto: the matching Material Library setting is copied onto that color’s LightBurn layer. Nearby colors are reassigned to the closest remaining engraving color, so you can experiment with confidence.
